Setting up software RAID

I am going to be setting up a software RAID-5 and I have some questions first. First of all, when I specify the initial dev entries to use (/dev/sdb1,sdc1,etc) what would happen if I were to install a drive latter and it were to take over one of these numbers? Should I be setting up udev to give some sort of static name to the drives or have udev create a symlink to it and use that
