How to configure Phonon?

Since I updated to kde4 I have been having trouble with the sound configuration since my microphone stopped working with the 'default' Phonon configuration I think.

What I am looking for is to use my speakers (connected to my SB Live card) for output and my headsets (connected to my on-board sound card through a front panel) for both output and input.

How to tell Phonon that I want to use my SB card for output only and my on-board nvidia sound card (correctly recognised by Phonon) for both output and input (headset's microphone)? I tried to defer/prefer these cards in what I thought would be the correct catagories but truth is I don't even get it how Phonon works.

I'm also using xine engine since Gstreamer doesn't even show up with options (and its icon is a big question mark).

Help appreciated, thanks in advance wink

Re: How to configure Phonon?

Hello Grimn,

in sound -> peripheric ( excuse me i have the french kde4 version ) you can set the sound device, phonon must use.

If it isn't the case , have you configured your asoundrc ( i don't think it's necessary )

Hope it will help you

Re: How to configure Phonon?

Thank you for the reply!

I have tried that putting my SB Live in Audio Output and putting my onboard card on Audio Capture. But this is what I was asking about, how do I configure this? It still doesn't work nor do I see how I tell Phonon to output through both cards (so I can listen throu headphones and speakers and capture throu headphone's mic).
I don't have a .asoundrc but tried a few and the best I got was getting both the derised outputs but no mixing nor capture neutral

Re: How to configure Phonon?

In this menu, you can set which phonom must use.

You should see the sound devices list, and choose which order the sound devices must be used ( which card phonon takes first, the second ...)

Each list, can be set for differents sound output and input.

If this daesn't work, try to check your sound devices individualy

Re: How to configure Phonon?

I know that. What I am asking is what is the setup for that menu? I have tried everything and didnt notice anything much less get the sound output on both devices and input on one. neutral
Is phonon suppose to be this useless?

Thanks for the reply!
