Hi.
I've installed Archlinux for the first time, but I cannot start because the following message:
::Loading Initranfs
export: 36: 773: bad variable name
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attemped to kill init!
Any help about what I've done bad on setup process.
Thanks in advance.

Reboot ur PC. When grub loads, select Archlinux, then press 'e'. This would take u to grub cmd-line. Now come to the line that says [kernel /boot/vmlinuz bla blah...]. Look carefully here, as you have passed a value 773 here. Change it to vga=773. Press 'enter'. Press 'b'. Now it should boot ok. After it boots successfully, change ur /boot/grub/menu.lst file as above [to cure it permanently].
P.S. A few details
vga=773 is a value that selects 1024x768 pixels resolution with 256 colors in the framebuffer mode.
Welcome to Arch BTW !!

Sometimes also when following the beginners guide and using nano, if you begin typing in the middle of the line, it tends to want to linebreak your original kernel line.
For something to go by, here's what the default kernel line looks like:
# (0) Arch Linux
title Arch Linux
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/6d4864b7-44af-4114-8c14-a1dae6d2821f ro
initrd /kernel26.img
Don't copy my kernel line - it's just there for an example of what it's SUPPOSED to look like.
Make sure there aren't any line breaks that don't belong. Otherwise, just follow onwards' directions for editing it all ![]()
