[Solved] System halts...

Hey, I tried to upgrade to 2.6.26.3-1 from 2.6.25.6-1 that came with the most recent installer. My system is a dell vostro 1000. The problem is after upgrading the kernel, you have your standard system messages, except it just stops at something like

NET: Registered protocol family 2

after all the PCI stuff.

It's a complete standstill. I downgraded my kernel and it's fine. I haven't found anything in dmesg that could give it away, but I've been back to using the 25.6-1 kernel for a while. It's kinda sad because I can't really use the catalyst driver without upgrading my kernel.

Do you guys have any idea what could be happening?

Hey, we got the same systems and I had the same problem. The trick add nolapic_timer to your boot options.

Also checkout http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dell_Vostro_1000 and if possible make any contributions!

SWEET. Will try that soon! I'm currently using just i686, are you using the 64 bit one? I think I'll switch to the 64bit one unless you have any warnings >_>

I know about flash and java sad

Thanks! Not solved yet as I haven't tried it yet o_o

Wow. Okay. Will need to read the wiki a lot more. Didn't notice the Vostro thing o_o. Thanks!

Re: [Solved] System halts...

No I am using x86 on my vostro 1000, mainly because I need a flash and a few other applications for a few classes I'm taking and it just makes life easier.

However I am using x86_64 on my desktop and I don't have any problems. Flash has been running surprisingly well with nspluginwrapper.
