Issues with sound possibly related to hard drive config

Whenever I play an mp3 file from my hard drive for the first time and try to do something else, such as browsing the net or anything that involves a compiz effect, my sound skips until my cpu goes back to being almost idle. The thing is, once the mp3 is finished playing the first time around, I can play it again and really bog my cpu down with no skipping at all. I'm assuming that's because the mp3 is loaded into main memory now and there is no need to access the hd to play it. So I'm just guessing that my hd might be configured wrong, especially since I don't recall doing anything with hdparm during the archlinux install or afterwards. I'm not sure if it was done for me or if anything even needs to be done, so that's why I'm asking for help. Anyway, here's what hdparm is saying about the hd:

bash-3.2# hdparm -i /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
