I installed archliux by the live-cd (cd-hd install), now, I get 2 questions
1:I have installed other themes (gnome, xfce), how can I choose one of them when the system boots?
2: the current kernel is 2.4.24-hwd, how can I update the latest kernel? I tried, by the commands
make menuconfig
make dep clean bzImage modules modules_install
but fail finally :x

For the kernel, pacman -Sy kernel26 should do the trick.
for the window manager, it depends if you use gdm, or kdm, or xdm, or startx. All of the options have been covered in other posts if you search the forum.

this is a very old package. You should be getting kernel26 2.6.11. Make sure you change up your servers in the config files as dhague suggested. Might be a good idea to make all the config files the same server at the top of the list if you find its good.
