Pm-hibernate restarts

Hi everyone, I've been having this issue for months. I thought it was going to be solved with updates, but that never happend.

I don't know waht could be the preoblem but I guess it could be something related to modules. I had installed this before and never had the problem. But now It works almost fine, except that after shutted down everything and saved the state, my laptop restarts inmmediately, loads the swap partition and resume, the resume works just fine, but the problem is that it wakes up as soons as it goes to hibernate.

Previously I used ndiswrapper, now I'm using B43, but i had disable it from loading at startup and then hibernate responds exactly the same. I'm using netcfg I used to have networkmanager, the log doesn't seem to report any problem, just hibernate and then restart inmediately.

Does anyone has a clue or has the same problem??? I wouldn't like to reinstall my system, I have everything working just fine but this.

Thanks. roll

Re: Pm-hibernate restarts

I would guess it is the problem with the ACPI. I've no idea how to fix that, but I've got the same beahviour when I was trying to hibernate Arch while I was running WinXP in VirtualBox. This problem occured only when I was enabling ACPI for virtualized windows.

So maybe try googling for ACPI and suspend.

I tried, I failed, no matter. Try again, fail again, fail better.

Re: Pm-hibernate restarts

Well a while has happend since my last post, I just want to say that I was unable to find a way to solve my problem. I reinstalled my system and now it is working fine.

I hope nobody gets the same behavior as me because unfortunately it appears not be not a way to fix it.

Re: Pm-hibernate restarts

Actually, I do have the same problem here. Using Arch on a Lenovo T400  under 2.6.26. System resumes immediately after suspend. This is not too problematic, merely annoying, as switching the system off via the power button solves this issue.

The Pm-suspend logfile in /var/log shows that some hooks were 'not applicable', I will further look into that...

my understanding would be the problem lies in line 275 of pm-functions. this is what it looks like:

echo -n "disk" > /sys/power/state

it's the last line in this file.

the file /sys/power/state looks like this:

mem disk

i have no idea what all this means. i'm itching to comment the offender out but i'm not at all sure it's a very good idea.

if anyone knows a solution, please be so kind as to post it for everyone to use.

Re: Pm-hibernate restarts

What does

cat /sys/power/disk

say?

The default should be shutdown. If it isn't put a file with the contents

HIBERNATE_MODE="shutdown"

in /etc/pm/config.d

Re: Pm-hibernate restarts

cat /sys/power/disk
[platform] test testproc shutdown reboot

i added the line you said to /etc/pm/config.d/config.

because i'm lazy i thought that i might try to see if it works without rebooting. i did a pm-hibernate but the computer woke up immediately. i checked /sys/power/disk again and it was set to shutdown. so i tried to hibernate it again but still, it woke up immediately.
i rebooted and checked /sys/power/disk. it's set to platform again. i tried a hibernate but no success.

Re: Pm-hibernate restarts

/etc/pm/config.d/defaults

make sure

HIBERNATE_MODE="shutdown"

Is uncommented and in that file.

Re: Pm-hibernate restarts

i'm afraid the only difference is that /sys/power/disk is now set to shutdown. but the computer still wakes up immediately after hibernating.

Re: Pm-hibernate restarts

Try
#echo none > /sys/power/pm_test
Other parameters (core, processors, platform...) are for debugging.
