Is there media manager/player that is something like Rhythmbox, Banshee, Exaile, or Quod Libet, except it does videos, too, and has Last.fm and podcast support? I am looking for a better solution than to have all these media players -- in my case, Quod Libet, Totem, Miro, and VLC -- lying around and having to switch back and forth from one to the other.

Try Elisa. I don't know if it has last.fm support but it is plug in based so anything is possible

Banshee can play videos and has last.fm and podcast support too.
Use the Source, Luke!

I'm always pleasantly surprised by and impressed with the open source community when I see projects I didn't know existed and that just look really nice. This is the first time I've seen Elisa and it looks really good. I don't have any particular use for it, personally (I just started using Quod Libet a few months ago, and it's the first music library program I've used in years—I think the last one was Music Match back when I used Windows), but I think my brother, in particular, might really like it.

Banshee, after 1.0 - 1.2 is really nice. Comes with a lot of plugins, supports media library for audio, video, radio streams, last.fm radios... The GUI is slick too. You might wanna try it.
PS: Elisa isn't really a player application, it's more for media center PC's. Still nice anyway.

Banshee won't update it's library for me. I've added a new album to my music folder but it doesn't show up.

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

You'll need to import the new files into its library.

Oh, wow. Despite that, Banshee is friggin' awesome. A question, though: how do you download the recommendations and the podcasts that you like to your music collection? I went and did Download Podcast(s) on a couple of songs, but when I went in my Music folder, I didn't see any of them. And I could not find a Download button for the recommendations.

You mean download the songs themselves, or the podcasts? If songs, then no, you can't download songs through last.fm, but you can buy them.

You'll need to look in ~/.config/banshee to find the files you're searching for. Banshee downloads things like cover art, lyrics, podcasts, etc to it's own directory.
