You have any plugin installed? I had that problem once, when a plugin I compiled myself broke compatiblity with a newer version.

2nd, it's probably that, just get all the plugins out of the config files (located at ~/.purple)

Re: pidgin 2.5.1 doesn't run

I have the same problem too sad
pidgin starts if ~/.purple is removed, but it immediately crashes when I try to create an ICQ account.

Re: pidgin 2.5.1 doesn't run

same for me here, I remove the ~/.purple directory, then when creating any kind of account (icq, msn, irc), it dies sad

Solution for me was to install older version, but it is annoying :
pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/pidgin-2.4.3-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz

Re: pidgin 2.5.1 doesn't run

The only solution that solved the problem for me is reinstalling Arch. Pidgin's running fine right now.

I think this bug has something to do with gstreamer or dbus:

Re: pidgin 2.5.1 doesn't run

I changed "Proxy Type" from "Use GNOME settings" to "No Proxy" in the account settings dialog and it solved the problem.
