Changing pacman downloader

Is there a way I can change downloader that pacman uses? I think right now it uses wget; I want it to use axel and read the mirror list from my mirrorlist; Then do it's stuff downloading from all mirrors to boost download speed;

Is this possible or just fantasy? Or would I get a server ban for doing it?

There are two usefull scripts mentioned on the Wiki. Powerpill wich uses aria2 to speed the download by semgenting the download in multiple parts and by using simultaneous downloads. The other script is pacget and wiki says for it:

It takes the download URL from pacman, then looks up the mirror list in /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and adds them all as mirrors to aria2. What ends up happening is aria2 connects to 10-20 servers (the default is 4 servers max) downloading from all of them at the same time, which should give anyone on broadband a huge boost in download speed.

It seems to me that's exactly what you want wink

If you look up the pacman.conf file, you will find the following entries commented out:

#XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget --passive-ftp -c -O %o %u
#XferCommand = /usr/bin/curl %u > %o

So they give you an idea of how to use an alternate downloader.

Re: Changing pacman downloader

I am using the following:

XferCommand = /usr/bin/axel -n 2 -a -o %o %u

Works well.
