Why isn't reiser4 in the installer?

From my experience (using it almost since it came out) it is very stable and much faster than ext3 or xfs; Why isn't it in the installer? (Other than Reiser's murder, which I don't see as a reason to not use RFS4) Have other users had trouble with it?

Re: Why isn't reiser4 in the installer?

It's not in the installer because it's not in the mainline kernel.

Re: Why isn't reiser4 in the installer?

Because it's not in the vanilla kernel, and arch uses the vanilla kernel.

If it ain't broke, broke it then fix it.

It isn't in the kernel. Arch tries to provide its kernel as vanilla as possible.

I was third :-( FAIL!

A bit more on-topic: I'm using R4 with cryptcompress on my / at the moment, but its not being in mainline makes it a bit of a pain in the ass.

Re: Why isn't reiser4 in the installer?

Well, why not at least add reiser4progs to the LiveCD? I know how to format my partitions before hand and then mount them where they need to be;

Re: Why isn't reiser4 in the installer?

Those aren't in the official repos either, so no dice.

If one knows how to install Arch with R4-enabled kernel, one should have no problems getting reiser4progs to work ;-)

That's a chicken or egg question, you still need the driver in the kernel to mount the FS itself wink. No kernel support, no possibility to mount a partition with an unsupported FS.

Oh yeah, forgot about that; Well, I think I will work on modifying the Arch LiveCD to allow RFS4 installations; Maybe someone else will find it useful as well;

There is no certain future for Reiser4Fs since Hans Reiser have been convicted for murdering his wife.

firewalker: Yes, I know; It is very saddening that he did that, for more reasons than just that;
