MacBookPro2,1

Hey,
I am new to archlinux as I am searching for a replacement for Mac OS X, because I would like to have some more options to customize my operation system.

So about my Macbook Pro
  Model Name:    MacBook Pro 17"
  Model Identifier:    MacBookPro2,1
Processor Name:    Intel Core 2 Duo
  Processor Speed:    2.33 GHz
  Number Of Processors:    1
  Total Number Of Cores:    2
  L2 Cache:    4 MB
  Memory:    2 GB
  Bus Speed:    667 MHz

with an X1600 Ati Readon inside

  Chipset Model:    ATY,RadeonX1600
  Type:    Display
  Bus:    PCIe
  PCIe Lane Width:    x16
  VRAM (Total):    256 MB
  Vendor:    ATI (0x1002)
  Device ID:    0x71c5
  Revision ID:    0x0000
  ROM Revision:    113-xxxxxx-158
  EFI Driver Version:    01.00.158

Now I am interested if Archlinux supports this hardware. As the installation information are not very detailed

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MacBookPro
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/MacBook (very detailed but it is the wrong model wink )
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HCL/Laptops/Apple (is my Macbook Rev 3 ? I though it was rev 2 ? or are they both compatible ? )

Can you please help me ? And tell me if it generally works or not or what to look out for and so on.

Re: MacBookPro2,1

Umm... I guess at least the ATI Stuff should work well. Though I don't know whether the rest of it will work (out of the box).

If I was you, I'd already tried to get Arch running on that machine!!! You don't have anything to loose! But well, I'm not the standard (Well, I once had this iPod, it broke and I couldn't turn it on anymore. So I toke it apart... Later I found out that I still had had the warranty. But taking it apart was fun at least big_smile ).
The safer way was if you just checked the Compatible Laptops Thread.

I wish you a lot of joy for taking the MacBook apart eeeeeeeeerrrrm.... installing Arch on it. Hope this helps.
