Just installed Arch 64/Gnome on a computer with a SATA CD/DVD ROM drive, and a SATA CD/DVD RW drive. BIOS knows about both drives, but dbus/hal does not recognize the CD/DVD ROM drive. The CD/DVD burner is recognized and works perfectly. Just for grins, I hooked up an IDE CD/DVD ROM drive so that there are now 3 optical drives connected. The IDE CD/DVD ROM and the SATA CD/DVD RW are both recognized and work fine. For some reason the SATA CD/DVD ROM drive is just not recognized. It is a Lite-On SHC-52S7K. I have tried everything I can think of to make it work.
Is this simply a case of hardware incompatibility that has no solution except for getting a different drive, or is there a way I can force dbus/hal to recognize the SATA ROM drive?
Thanks.

OK..... I just did a pacman -Syu which included a kernel upgrade, and now it works. Nautilus incorrectly identifies the drive as a CD-RW/DVD+RW Drive, instead of a CD/DVD ROM. But hey, it works.

I can confirm this. Kernel 2.6.26.5 fixes the problems.
