editing a tar file[SOLVED]

can someone tell me how to edit an existing tar file. I need to edit the Makefile.

Additionally, vim has built in tar support. You should be able to "vim foo.tar.gz", edit a file, and save it... I think

Holy CRAP that's awesome. Maybe I should put my entire filesystem in one tarfile...
