I've installed Age of Empires 2 with wine on my laptop.
The installation itself seemed to go smooth, but when running the game, the screen gets corrupted(is that a correct use of that word?)
The weird thing is that when i take a print screen of the game, it shows up as it should. You can compare these two, the first one is what I see when I try to play the game, and the other is a screendump:

Anyone know why this is? If you need to know anything such as specs or something, just ask.

I tried to install a simple pong game for windows, when launching it, it corrupts the screen just like AOE2. I tried using virtual desktop, and it seems that the games corrupts the whole screen, not just the game itself.

I saw the same effect with Catalyst 8.6-8.8 and Starcraft/Wine. First workaround was to use Catalyst 8.5 but then I got issues with some other games and after the 2.6.25->2.6.26 kernel upgrade 8.5 ceased to work.
The next workaround was to use Google. I think what solved it was to configure an 'odd' resolution in xorg.conf, 1401x1050 instead of 1400x1050 (19" CRT).
But then, I'm using [testing] and catalyst 8.8 doesn't work with xorg-server 1.5, so I had to switch to the open source driver. That one works fine without any workarounds, albeit quite a bit slower.

Exactly what section should i put that in, and exactly what should i write? It doesn't seem to say anything about resolution anywhere in my xorg.conf.
I am using the Catalyst driver, with a resolution of 1280x800, do you think it would fix it if I chose 1281x800 for example in my xorg.conf?

There is a weird workaround for this. I experienced the same problems with Jedi Academy. The solution was to make wine use a virtual desktop and switching to a lower resolution with <ctrl><alt>-/+, start the game and restore the resolution. Switching resolutions like this also fixes the screen corruption with blender.

The bug should have been finally fixed in Catalyst 8.9. Just wait for the package and we'll see.
