[Solved] Some apps hang for a long time..

Some apps (thunar, ristretto, qtiplot, gkrellm) hang when starting them, when I start them from terminal, I don't get any output, just nothing happens, no hard drive activity at all. After a long time (more than 10 minutes), the app suddenly starts and functions as normal. When closing the app and starting it again, the same happens. I have no clue how to troubleshoot this as no output is generated...
The apps that aren't affected, work as they should. I'm using plain openbox, if this matters.

When something this weird happens, I like to check my memory: see memtest.

Check also if hostname is correctly configured. Surprisingly, that can affect some applications startup times.

My hosts file is ok:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost arachne

with that last one being my hostname. I'll check my memory when I reboot.

Well, it's not only about the /etc/hosts file. What about your /etc/rc.conf? Did you put the same name in there?

Doesn't make sense. Nothing in the logs?

Re: [Solved] Some apps hang for a long time..

I found the cause, while configuring iptables I forgot to add a rule to accept all traffic on loopback... All seems to be working again now smile
Thanks for helping me out here!
