6 gigs single-channel vs 4 gigs dual-channel

A while back I bought a single 2 gig stick for my computer.
A couple months ago, they were having a nice sale on newegg, so i bought 2x2 gig sticks.
Right now I'm using all 6 gigs in my computer, but it's not running dual channel.
Is it faster to run 6 gig's single-channel, or 4 gigs dual channel?

Depends on wether you'll use the full 6 gigs, which I am 99% sure of you won't. It'll probably be better using 4 gigs dual channel smile

If you do some research, I think you may conclude that the dual-channel advantage is largely a myth.
RAM is not a system bottleneck nowadays, and hasn't been for quite a few years now.
This may be a moot point though, since I can't think of what you would be using 6 or even 4 gigs for anyways. tongue

Why do people never think of RAM filesystems?

Re: 6 gigs single-channel vs 4 gigs dual-channel

I don't know... with my current openbox setup i cap around 5% ram usage..... I think I need 8 gigs :-D

I did do some research, and what I can up with was it basically doesn't matter anymore, you won't really notice an increase from dual-channel. Just thought I would ask here to see if anyone had other opinions
