82845G "Intelgrated" graphics + direct rendering. Possibility?

Topic.

I've had nothing but war and bad experiences with glxinfo in the past (read: ATI X1550). Therefore, this is a very touchy area for me, and the first time I've ventured into this area with my integrated graphics since I installed Linux 6 months ago.

So, any instructions or help to make glxinfo say "direct rendering: Yes" would be greatly appreciated... or if this utter (currently un-upgradeable) garbage can't do direct rendering, I'd appreciate you saving me the headache and just telling me if it isn't possible so I don't try.

Windows was made for looking at success from a distance through a wall of oversimplicity. Linux removes the wall, so you can just walk up to success and make it your own.

A paste of your /var/log/Xorg.0.log might shed some light on this. Also, are you in the video group?

I wasn't in the video group but usermod fixed that.

Re: 82845G "Intelgrated" graphics + direct rendering. Possibility?

Well, according to your log you should have direct rendering, although I'm not sure what to think about that "(WW) intel(0): Failed to allocate texture space." line.

Edit: Oh, and remove that dri2 line from your Module section in xorg.conf (or better: the whole section, it's not needed usually)

Re: 82845G "Intelgrated" graphics + direct rendering. Possibility?

I was under the impression that nvidia was incompatable with dri, which means that both dri lines would have to go. I think I read that on the AIGLX page in the wiki.

EnvoyRising: There is no nvidia involved here.

dav7: Did you disable/comment/remove the Module section? What does 'LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo' say?

Well, I've removed all of that section from my xorg.conf... I have no idea what difference it'd make, but anyway.

Also, I'm using intel integrated graphics, not nvidia, so...

Hrm. I assume your system is up-to-date with -Syu?

You could try enabling the testing repo as there's quite a bunch of Xorg updates in it, but that might as well lead to other or even more problems.

Hang on about 10 minutes. I need to do a 500MB update... hmm

EDIT: Agh, I'm still downloading packages. I thought downloading would take 5min, since I have 1.25MB/s. >Wrong<.

Yup, it's either all or nothing with testing.

And just in case you get problems with your keyboard layout afterwards: deinstalling xf86-input-evdev should be the quickest workaround.

#1, I already had testing enabled... sorry I didn't make that clear. I just haven't -Syu'd in a while. ;P

#2, Thanks for that tip.

This is amazing. I. Am. Still. Downloading. Packages. mad And I have a 10Mbps link!
Edit: Oh, it just changed to the 'community' repo, it might finish soon tongue
Edit 2: changed to 'archlinuxfr'!
Edit 3 (0.001 seconds later): INSTALLING big_smile (now we wait a while, I has IDE HDD... roll)

Oooh, this looks bad. I'm about to use -Suf to make it install, but it looks X-related so... yeah.

Oh, ok.

/Users/dav7/ + pacman -Qs catalyst
/Users/dav7/ + pacman -Qs libgl
local/libgl 7.1-2
Mesa DRI OpenGL library and drivers
local/libglade 2.6.2-1
Allows you to load glade interface files in a program at runtime
local/libglademm 2.6.6-1
    A C++ wrapper for libglade.
/Users/dav7/ +

By the way, do you want to move this over to IRC? It'd let things be a little more 'realtime', but hey, the forum works too if you like that better.

(Note to self: augh, now we have to re-patch openbox since it updated. Where's that sourcecode download again...)

No, I've finally reached the point of cluelessness. Sorry.
Perhaps post /var/log/Xorg.0.log again?

Dunno what to do, apart from using Google, searching our bugtracker or asking Jan (jgc).

Windows was made for looking at success from a distance through a wall of oversimplicity. Linux removes the wall, so you can just walk up to success and make it your own.

Re: 82845G "Intelgrated" graphics + direct rendering. Possibility?

Here's the output of a few commands I discovered I by poking about on the web.

lspci -vvv (as root, to get the 'Capabilities' section to "work"):

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
    Subsystem: IBM NetVista A30p

    Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR- INTx-
    Latency: 0
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 16
    Region 0: Memory at 88000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
    Region 1: Memory at 80000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 1

(of course, that's just my video section.)

Re: 82845G "Intelgrated" graphics + direct rendering. Possibility?

pacman -S intel-dri
pacman -S xf86-video-intel

It should work w/o xorg.conf  (try that)

And next time please better specify the card you have, in first post. Best way is  I have Intel integrated grafics x1300. I have never heard about 82845G.
