[Solved] HAL doesn't mount CD/DVD

Currently I'm running Arch x86_64 on Samsung R20+ laptop. Desktop - Openbox as the WM and PCManFM as FM, when inserting a CD/DVD in the TS-L632H drive, it doesn't appear in Side Pane, nor in PCManFM nor Thunar. When I restart HAL and Dbus services, somehow magically the Disc appears in the Side Pane and I don't know why. I also tried pmount - no result, still the CD/DVD isn't mounted. Only when I add a line in /etc/fstab it mounts.

$ groups esters
video audio optical storage power http hal users

$ pacman -Q {hal,dbus,hal-info}
hal 0.5.11-1
dbus 1.2.3-1
hal-info 0.20080508-1

/dev/sr0 /media/cdrom auto ro,user,auto 0 0

i'm assuming that

/dev/sr0 /media/cdrom auto ro,user,auto 0 0

is in your /etc/fstab ?

try commenting it out -- per this part of the wiki

Re: [Solved] HAL doesn't mount CD/DVD

The hal wiki  is incomplete   ( kde or gnome oriented )

One have to insure that  the WM session est managed by dbus
for instance ,  with fvwm ,    start the session with 'dbus-launch  fvwm'  instead  of  'exec fvwm'

Re: [Solved] HAL doesn't mount CD/DVD

I'll mark it as fixed

I reinstalled Arch64 with the same setup, followed the HAL wiki entry, commented both cdrom and dvd entries and fstab and everything works as it should with PCManFM.

Thanks for your help drew and enkidu smile
