alsa only working on some apps

Hey all,

I just set up mpd according to the wiki.
It required me to make an asound file.

every since, i can use mplayer, mpd, sonata, etc.. fine.
however, flash off the web and vlc will not work as a regular user, only as root.

thanks for any tips

add your user to the audoi group

#gpasswd -a user audio

hey thanks.
The user is already added to that group.
I think the issue has something to do with the way i set up the mpd because i had to create a .asound file
and so on.

Just kinda weird.

here is another head scratcher,
vlc will play but with no volume, mplayer will play just fine.
