Audio CDs not recognised

Hi,

I have this wierd problem. My CD/DVD Burner drive refused to recognise music CDs. I tested the drive and it reads and automounts data CDs and DVDs. However when I put a normal music CD in the drive nothing happens.
I also discovered that normal DVD movies are recognised and play fine.

It's wierd. Am I missing something.

[Edit] Ok I discovered that the CDs are played. The thing that is not working is that they are not recognised in Dolphin i.e. the CD icon shortcut never turns up. Also the Audio CD does not turn up on my KDE4.1 plasmoid that shows I have inserted removable media.[Edit]

Re: Audio CDs not recognised

Hello

Is the user you are using  a member of the groupd Optical. I believe the user must be part of that group to gain access to this type of media.

Useful groups for your non-root user include:

audio - for tasks involving sound card and related software
floppy - for access to a floppy if applicable
lp - for managing printing tasks
optical - for managing tasks pertaining to the optical drive(s)
storage - for managing storage devices
video - for video tasks and 3d acceleration
wheel - for using sudo/su

To add a user to group the root user must do
# gpasswd -a yourusername name of the group you want to add it to

Be cautious who you give these access to. That may be a security problem if a user that should not have access to something get this access.
