Well the end of the year is coming, which means I will have time to finally remove Linux Mint on my computer that I haven't used for months and am now ready to have a main partition with Arch Linux and Windows XP.
Need some answers to know how'll I'll be able to go around the streets of Arch ![]()
Is it easy to install and make nvidia & ATI drivers work + 3D acceleration? I have an nvidia 8300gt ATM and will after upgrade to a ATI HD4850 early next year.
How is this project going, does pacman install this properly yet ( http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=42537&p=1 ), I really want to install it.
Does AWN & Compiz work with pacman fine using the Arch repos?
How do you install grub since I will have 2 OS's?
Does gnome and its friendly GUI's/settings tools work fine with Arch ATM?
I am planning to install Arch during the beginning of November and am very excited move from Parsix to Arch, I'm sure the Arch way of installing will intimidate me quite a bit
. Any answers will be appreciated ![]()
Cheers,
molom

Grub - Fixed
Video Card - Fixed, but what happens if I install multiple drivers, do I have to set up the drivers after installing them?
GUI's - fixed
AWN - Not fixed
Global Menu - Not fixed
Another question. Do I have to recompile the kernel to change the bootsplash, isn't there a utility like usplash yet?
BTW, my name isn't Luke... But thanks for the link anyway.

If you install multiple drivers, pacman is going to report conflicts; nvidia and ATi have their own OpenGL libraries (/usr/lib/libGL.so, I guess). It's better that you install other drivers when you actually get your new hardware.

May the source be with you...

Thanks! I'll post something if I ever have any conflicts once I upgrade the the graphics card.
PS. I kept on looking for the global menu, but everyone seems to have a different experience, guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I would stay away from ATI from personal experience, it was so bad getting 3D and Composite running on my Laptop I just put Vista back on it and gonna give it to the Ex
Now the nVidia drivers work from the get go and with minimal futzing of xorg to get Composite and 3D running nicely

I don't understand it, how come I get so many different views about graphics cards when regarding Linux? Some tell me nvidia is slowing down and ATI is going up because AMD bought it and some others are saying the opposite.

Just giving you my personal experiences, most of the latest "problems" with the nVidia driver was with KDE4 and was a bug that has been fixed according to many
Just seems the a larger percentage of problems on the forum involving video cards seem to revolve around ATI, so it might be a problem to setup, but just about any problem encontered should have a solution somewher in the forums by now ![]()

Lets see what happens next year when I buy it then ![]()
