the lx desktop environment does not work well without fam.
Maybe fam should be added as dependency?

This is nice and cool, but you can install lxde with nor fam nor gamin. Isn't this a problem?
Probably lxde should have fam as dep and gamin should replace fam.

From my personal experience, gamin is far less prone to race conditions between threads than fam. gamin should be enough to do anything that's needed to be done; inotify covers everything else.

I doubt fam/gamin will be added as a dependency as it is not needed to run lxde. It just adds some nice features. Perhaps it would be good to add it as an optdepend to lxde-common. File a feature request and see what the maintainer thinks.

Well, I noticed I was lacking fam/gamin because the lxde split a huge error message just after starting... It works more or less after, but it did not seem really optional. I'll file a feature request.

fam (or gamin) is already a dependency of pcmanfm which is lxde's default file manager.
