Specific programs on specific desktops?

I am currently using openbox and I was wondering if anyone knows of any way to specify which desktop a program should load on when it starts?  I have several programs that I have start automatically with X, but I do not want all of them to be sticky.  I basically want to organize programs across my desktops.  Thanks in advance.

Re: Specific programs on specific desktops?

That's going to be a function of your window manager, normally. In kahakai, i know you can script in a function that checks the window name and performs an action (i.e. join a desktop) when it is loaded. So, you are going to have to read openbox docs.

Re: Specific programs on specific desktops?

Apparently openbox doesn't have a feature similar  "join to desktop" like window managers like kahakai do.  I found something that solves my problem and I figured I'd post it in case anyone else has a similar problem.  In the links section of the openbox web site, they have a link to a website for "Devil's Pie."  Here is a quote from their website:

Devil's Pie can be configured to detect windows as they are created, and match the window to a set of rules. If the window matches the rules, it can perform a series of actions on that window. For example, I make all windows created by X-Chat appear on all workspaces, and the main Gkrellm1 window does not appear in the pager or task list.

In case anyone is interested in checking it out, here's a link to their site: http://www.burtonini.com/blog/computers/devilspie
Does anyone have any other ideas?

The development version of Fluxbox supports it, but that doesn't solve your problem. Seems like Devil's Pie is the way to go with Openbox.

Thank you Mr Green.  I'm sorry I didn't find that myself.
