Livecd freezes during boot

This is with version 2008.06 of the cd. I get the graphical menu, and select the top choice, boot regular arch linux.

Then I get a line stating its booting, then a line with the parameters, like lang=en and stuff, dont remember them all as I have rebooted to windows.

Trying to install arch on my new laptop I just got, its with a core2duo processor. I dont know whats relevant hardware wise on this question.

Is there a way that I can toggle a debug/log output? So I can see what its doing when it halts. Note that I left it running for some time, to get a walk and a smoke. The cd device and the harddrive takes turns in spinning away but after a while, suddenly stops.

Re: Livecd freezes during boot

what about booting with acpi=off or irqpoll? that might help ...

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

Re: Livecd freezes during boot

Tried it with both commands separately and both together, neither did work.

Booted my other computer now to be able to type whats on the screen:

Booting command-list

kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 lang=en locale=en_US.UTF-8 ramdisk_size=75% acpi=off irqpoll

The cursor is placed on a new line and just stands there, blinking, doing nothing.

Re: Livecd freezes during boot

does your notebook have a usb-legacy option on bios? Some computers stuck at boot when it's enabled.

Re: Livecd freezes during boot

the last resource I would choose, is trying to boot the machine with a x86_64 bits. Do you have one at hand? or, you might try booting one of the older installation discs. I have the 2007.08 disc, the ftp version. It's a 35 mb download (for i686). The url is ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/iso/2007.08/i68 … -2.ftp.iso. I haven't any issues with that release.

This 'stalling' issue I've seen it on a lot of AMD machines. Installing the x86_64 solved the issue on all of them, but as far as I tryied, I've never been affected by this on a Intel CPU. So, I hope it might be a kernel issue and nothing else, because I'm running out of ideas of what can be your problem.

May the 'source' be with you big_smile
