reset sound

I have kdemod4 in my laptop and sometimes after keeping it idle for some time, i lose my microphone capability.
I dont know it just does not work, usually i have no issues with skype or  flash programs like tokbox.
Is there a way i can reset the sound without rebooting, coz rebooting usually works for me but i dont want to reboot sad

Re: reset sound

If you're using ALSA, do this as root:

/etc/rc.d/alsa restart

Re: reset sound

Make sure you're typing exactly what skottish posted. Alsa isn't an actual command within your path, so you'll need to specify the absolute path to it like he said.

Re: reset sound

You can try unloading and loading your soundcard modules. "lsmod | grep snd" to determine them, "modprobe -r" to remove them, "moprobe" to load.
