yum provides like command for pacman
is it possible knowing what package provides a particular file?
I think not, but before making a feature request I'd like to know if it is really impossible
and if it is possible to implement it without great problems. In fact it would need a database of all installable files of all packages...

On the mirrors there are files called (e.g.) extra.flies.tar.gz which contain a list of files in each package. There is a script on the forums called something like pacfile which will search them. This may make its way into pacman-contrib at some stage but we are still looking at the best way of integrating it. From memory, there is a bug report in the pacman section about it.
