How do I install the standard GNOME bittorent client?
Offline
Have you learnt how to use pacman or AUR yet?

Use KDE, it uses less resources and has very nice KTorrent app it rokks

Why not try Deluge?

Transmission is my first choice and Deluge is my second. Don't see the point of the gnome standard one, no features whatsoever. Transmission is really, really light, so give that a try.

if you're not afraid of cli, give rtorrent a shot
really nice on resources and with a little reading you can configure it very well

+1 for Transmission. I have it on 24/7.
Since the 0.3x series (or before) a lot of things were fixed and added that were in SVN only, so I really like that I can have it as a regular pacman package now.

Try rtorrent

But if they tell you that I've lost my mind, maybe it's not gone just a little hard to find...

rtorrent scares me

Opera (web browser) has integrated bittorrent support. Azureus is also good but resource hungry.
These are not for GNOME but don't require KDE at all.

I believe Azureus isn't developed anymore, they now only make the Vuze client, which isn't designed for torrents not found in the Vuze directory.
As for Opera, I imagine the Opera client is very limited.

you may also want to check your favorite trackers' clients white list. i doubt opera or gnome are one of them. deluge, transmission, ktorrent and rtorrent are most of the time allowed (depending on version).

Can you further explain about what this white list is about and why its in place? Tried looking it up, but can't find anything. I've never heard about this relating to torrents.

The "white list" is just a list of allowed clients. For the reasons behind this, here's a quote of a popular music tracker:
Client rules are how we maintain the integrity of our swarms. This allows us to filter out disruptive and dishonest clients that may hurt the performance of either the tracker or individual peers.

Thanks bangkok_manouel, I learn something every day

This isn't true. Azureus is still under heavy development, Vuze and Azureus UI's coexist (and you can pick whichever you want), and more than that, provided that you know a bit about java you can compile the main jar (Azureus2) with all that vuze bloat left out. It also happens to be far and out the best bittorrent client out there, under any OS.

Even if Azureus is no longer developed it's definitely the most feature-full bittorrent client. One can always download older version.

I've tried "pacman -S transmission" with no luck. Probably something else I need to try. Also is there way to search in pacman?
Offline
Use pacman -Ss to search:
[tim@arch64 ~]$ pacman -Ss transmission
extra/transmission-cli 1.34-1
Fast, easy, and free BitTorrent client (CLI tools and daemon)
extra/transmission-gtk 1.34-1
Fast, easy, and free BitTorrent client (GTK+ GUI)

That will help a lot, thanks.

One more question that has nothing to do with torrents. How can I get the time to automatically set with an online time server deeleo.

Try rtorrent. It can be very friendly if you've read the man
