Memory usage interpretation

Hi,

I've got the following memory usage:
According to free:

[root@mybox me]# free -m
total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:           947        935         11          0         16        679
-/+ buffers/cache:        240        707
Swap:         4094          0       4094

According to webmin:

947.30 MB total, 256.51 MB used

What does it mean?

PS First firefox/webmin started, then free -m; actually the sequence of tests doesn't matter much.

Re: Memory usage interpretation

Are you asking why 'free' shows 935 used?  Most of that is being used by the buffer cache to minimize disk access.. the 240 on the second line shows what your apps are actively using.

Re: Memory usage interpretation

That is, webmin reading is probably used - cached?
