[Solved] #Archlinux: SSL Supported?

Does the IRC server that #Archlinux is hosted on support SSL?
I can't access IRC channels outside our university network without it.
Whenever I try to join into a channel on any non-SSL IRC server from any client, I get disconnected the moment after I use the join command.

Unfortunately, Freenode doesn't offer SSL support. Have you tried connecting with different ports (ie 6668, 6669 instead of 6667)?

Re: [Solved] #Archlinux: SSL Supported?

So, why not try to connect the Freenode via socks5 proxy, using Tor?

You should connect the special address for tor: mejokbp2brhw4omd.onion.

See http://freenode.net/irc_servers.shtml#tor
