upgraded dependencies and installed gnome for gnucash. now cups not working here is the error: error loading kde_cups. the diagnostic is libgnutls.so.13 cannot open shared object file no such file or directory. Went to the wiki for cups and found the trouble shooting for this was to pacman -Sy gnutls. did that and restarted cups with /etc/rc.d/cups restart which failed. did ldd /usr/sbin/cupsd and found that libgnutls.so.13 => not found. Did pacman -Q gnutls and have gnutls2.4.1-3. Could not delete and reinstall printer because the file was not found thus not enabling cups to work. So I think I need to do a symlink, but do not know where to put it or what to link it to. Is this right or am I going the wrong direction?

First, make sure your system is fully up-to-date (-Syu).
What packages owns kde_cups ? If it's in the repo, file a bug and rebuild the package. If it's in AUR, just rebuild the package.

As for the symlink "didn't you get the memo" You are talking over my head right now. No I don't know if this is a bug or my mess up. Until I get good enough at archlinux and fixing problems that crop up I think it is my mistake in how I am doing things or how I understand things I read.
SO I don't know if this is a bug, as far as that link goes I don't know what a rebuild is. Is it rebuilding the abs, all the files , the files that somehow got messed up, links to files that were changed, changing a listing of new files or what? Sometimes having a little understanding, especially programming from the 80's makes things more difficult rather than easier to understand.
As for which package owns kde_cups, I tried pacman -Q -o kde_cups and file not found. Reading pacman manual that is how it is supposed to be done. So now I am lost again.

You need to specify the full path when using pacman -Qo
What needs to be rebuilt is the package that contains kde_cups

Sorry to be so slow learning how, but reading pacman and searching thru files I cannot find kde_cups. I imagine it is kde or cups that kde_cups belongs to. I tried pacman -Qs, pacman -Qg, pacman -Ql, find / -name "kde_cups" and got nothing. Either I am reading things wrong or am not catching on fast enough. Can you tell me the next step?

did ldd /usr/sbin/cupsd and found that libgnutls.so.13 => not found.
Your system is not up-to-date. Do a 'pacman -Syu'.

Ok snowman I did a pacman -Syu and got everything upgraded. Gnucash compiled and installed. Cinelerra which I tried installing months ago but was missing dependencies that I tried to get but couldnt now starts. I thank you for that, but now comes the problems that happens every time I do a system upgrade. First kde changed to 4.1 and rearranged things so I have to try and find them and somethings do not work like the konsole and home file directorys from either the panel menu or the desktop. The print manager is gone, but managing printing is in the Kmenu. When I try starting manage printing I get a fatal error signal 6 (SIGABRT). I clicked on the link for reporting a bug, is that the correct procedure or should I have done something else? Nothing in wine works because the video driver is missing. I probably have to reboot to get things working, but every time I do, I end up in terminal with kde dieing and have to reset everything by going thru the internet trying to find steps in the beginners guide starting from the beginning. Do I have to reboot or can I fix things from the desktop that is working? If so where do I start? Thanks, if I keep this up I might actually be able self sufficient and maybe even help others someday.

Usually, the less often you upgrade, the more problem it will be when you upgrade.

KDE 4 is a major update from KDE 3 so it's somewhat expected that you'll need to update your configs and that several things have changed.

That probably reported the bug upstream. I don't know much about printing so I can't say much.

What video driver is missing?
I probably have to reboot to get things working,
That might help depending on what you updated.

Normally, rebooting shouldn't be such a pain. It looks like there is something wrong with your system like maybe a configuration problem. You'll need to give more details on the problems that you get when rebooting.
