Hi , Ive just installed Arch 64 Bit and im banging my head on the table to get my sound working..
The Volume icon on the top panel shows a red cross and when i double click it , it tells me "No Volume Control Gstreamer and/or devices found". Ive tried unmuting it and raising the volume using alsamixer. Ive also tried running alsaconf but to no avail.
Ive installed hwd , it tells me that my sound module is snd_intel8x0.
I am clueless...
Thanks..

According to hwd -s :
Sound(m) : CK804 AC'97 Audio Controller module: snd_intel8x0
Its an onboard soundcard on my ASUS M2n4-SLI (nForce)
modprobe snd_intel8x0
doesnt give any output..

the soundcard uses a Realtek ALC850 chip. i think you'll need the official drivers from realtek: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dow … Down=false
modprobe only loads the module (without any output)
make sure that your system is up to date, all need alsa packages are installed (alsa-lib alsa-utils), you (as user) are a member of the group audio: gpasswd -a username audio , the volume is up --> console --> alsamixer
