problem instaling nvidia drivers

this is my first time trying arch, i have been using ubuntu for almost 2 years, and im looking to try somthing more advanced, so im trying arch.

im trying to install the nvidia driver, using "pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils"

i get output saying "nvidia requires kernel26<2.6.27"

so i try to install kernel26 using command "pacman -S kernel26"

i get an error saying

error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
klibc-kbd: /lib/initcpio/hooks/keymap exists in filesystem
klibc-kbd: /lib/initcpio/install/keymap exists in filesystem

errors occurred, no pacakges were upgraded.

what can i do the get past this?

thanks markp1989

Re: problem instaling nvidia drivers

try running pacman -Syu, before you install nvidia drivers. also don't forget to reboot after installing/updating kernel.

pacman -S means installing new package, but you already have kernel installed, so try updating the system with pacman -Syu.
