I just did an upgrade of my system (pacman -Syu).
I noticed that ndisrwapper and its corresponding utils were updated.
After rebooting my wireless was not working and it took it about 5 min to connect to my network. Then, about 1 hour later it just died; dragging along with it the entire system thatfoze and had to be hard-booted. Just like with the previous update... this is most frustrating!
Even worst ... because in the previous update I was able to use packages I found in this thread http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=54224 to get things to work, but now when I try to use them again to downgrade I get error: '/var/cache/pacman/pkg/ndiswrapper-1.52-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz': libarchive error
Is there anyone that has a solution to this problem?
Just for the record my settings are:
Laptop Acer 7720
Wireless: Atheros 5416
network.d configuration file:
CONNECTION="wireless"
INTERFACE="wlan0"
HOSTNAME=renegade
# Use DHCP
#IP="dhcp"
#DHCP_TIMEOUT=20
# Use Static IP
IP="static"
IFOPTS="192.168.1.22 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255"
GATEWAY="192.168.1.1"
# Standard wireless settings
ESSID="ITTwo-wifi"
SECURITY="wpa"
KEY="my_secret_password"
IWOPTS="mode managed essid $ESSID key restricted $KEY"
#Scan network before connecting
SCAN="YES"
TIMEOUT="20"
Thanks.

I found the reason the downgrade was not working. It had to do with restrictions of compressed files in the firewall, I allowed compressed files though and it downgraded just fine.
So... as far as I am concerned that fixes the problem for now. Unfortunately it seems that the ndiswrapper business is not getting any better since the last two upgrades broke my wireless (and I'm sure countless others out there).
