gnome mount policy

Hi,

I was trying to see how groups affect the ability to mount volumes in gnome via hal, and came across some weird behavior. So I'd like to know if I have missed something.

So here is what I did:

1. create a user alpha with groups users and storage
2. login as alpha
3. start gnome session

As expected, all disk volumes were mounted. So far, so good. Then:

4. logout alpha
5. login as root
6. remove alpha from group storage
7. unmount all volumes mounted in step 3
8. restart hal
9. logout
10. login as alpha
11. start gnome session

and still all disk volumes are mounted. Only after

12. reboot

was alpha not permitted to mount.

I mean, this is Linux. "logout and in again for changes to take effect" is OK. But a reboot in order to change mount permissions seems weird. I'm suspecting that there is something else apart from hal that needs to restart, but I have no idea what.

Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.
