It's due to qt4. If you have KDE3, install opera qt3.

it's compiled against qt3 older version, it has the same problem ![]()

I'll add to that very problem, the fact that I could no longer insert dead keys in Opera's dialogs (search dialog, javascript prompts, etc), ever since I upgrade to Opera 9.6.
I had to install Opera statically linked to QT, rather than the general version, to correc that as well.
A good ol' "pacman -Sy opera-static" will work for you (replace opera with opera-static).

inface this verison of opera dont need qt4, it is static verison. so it cant use other qtstyle.
but there is a qt4 shared verison, opera 9.60 build 2436 (the lastest is 2444). you can have a try. this verison can use other qtstyle like gtkstyle.

Just as an information. I have packaged opera like this:
i686 version: opera with static qt4
x86_64 version: opera with shared qt3
Why? Because opera doesn't provide a final qt4 shared versions for i686 or x86_64. Do me a favor and please report it upstream to opera that they should provide a qt4 shared version for i686 and x86_64!!!
The only thing I can do is that I package opera the "old way" = shared qt3 versions for both architectures.

Yes I've understood the problem.
So I've used a PKGBUILD (posted by a kdemod user) of a qt3-shared version and it works fine.
@Daniel: maybe a shared qt3 version could solve the problem for other people. However thanks for to explain the problem to me ![]()
@jarryson: thank you too.

i have an issue with the latest opera 9.6 from the arch x86 package (i.e the static-qt4 version).
it's that every time i open opera, its window is maximisez to take full size of the desktop.
i switch back to the shared-qt3 version just for that reason. any one having that issue too ?

Do you have kde+compiz?

Qt4's default (or fallback) style also is it's most ugly one..
One can at least launch Opera with -style cleanlooks to make it instantly look better.
Unfortunately Opera's scrollbars don't seem to be style aware and continue to be ugly.

Howe can this topic be solved? My Opera still looks awefull.
I've tried with -style cleanlooks, but it is still not the same as BEFORE the upgrade from 9.5X (but better than with no style).
I've tried opera-static but again, its not the same as BEFORE.. The interface looks like the old from 9.5X but the font is not nice, with no antialiasing.
Please help?

Hi,
I see this is marked as SOLVED, but I hope it's OK if I post this. I just updated Opera to 9.61, and boy, the menus were butt-ugly! Also I didn't like the behavior, as I'm used to sub-menus opening when I hover over items in the menu. I had no idea how to fix this, but after reading over these postings, it occurred to me to try this on the command line:
opera -notrayicon -style plastik &
Yay, Opera's menus are back to the way I like 'em! Everything seems nice again. I'd just happened to have had to kill Opera on the command line, so I had in my terminal that bit of info from doing ps -efwww | grep opera. So I'm gonna stick that into my .fluxbox/menu entry for Opera (without the "&").
Hope that's useful info for someone.
