Re: How to replace Gran Paradiso Alpha with the real Mozilla-Firefox

In fact, it IS the real Mozilla Firefox. It is called 'Gran Paradiso' because Mozilla does not allow the usage of the name 'Firefox' if you download it from outside mozilla.org

So, it is not a browser based on Firefox. It IS firefox but with a different name. This is the ONLY difference.

Not exactly true.  Gran Paradiso won't pass a browser check.  Sucks if some random site requires Firefox.

And I know of at least one distro that ships with true Firefox.

@ kaola:  Download "real" FF from here:

Re: How to replace Gran Paradiso Alpha with the real Mozilla-Firefox

It is a customized Firefox...It is so slow...Already tried that SkonesMickLoud.  I already had the tar.bz2 file from the site then I've extracted it run from console but nothing happened...

Please teach me how to build also in abs, for example if I have a source package where can I find or how to make the PKGBUILD file...^^
I was amazed by the speed of konqueror before it did broke up again!!!!This pisses me off!!!

Gran Paradiso does connect but Konqueror does not....Sheesshhhh...

Install the branded Firefox from AUR: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18019
Its better than downloading from Mozilla, coz you can add/remove it with Pacman.

Re: How to replace Gran Paradiso Alpha with the real Mozilla-Firefox

Just a quick note for all:

Our firefox-package is build from the official firefox source code. We only patch it with 3 patches, that's all and that's why we aren't allow to call it firefox.

The reason why some websites complains about a unsupported browser is that they just check the HTTP-Agent string of the browser, which is "Gran Paradiso". Change it to "Firefox" and everything is fine. The branded firefox in AUR does exactly this and nothing more (except of the orginal logos).

Gran Paradiso is the codename of Mozilla Firefox 3.0

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Windows was made for looking at success from a distance through a wall of oversimplicity. Linux removes the wall, so you can just walk up to success and make it your own.

You can see what the patches are by using ABS or looking at the web interface to the SVN repo.  From what I guess from a quick look at the patches

One patch sets a preference to choose the language of choice by the systems locale.
One stops the Mozilla EULA showing on the first run
One fixes https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=421977

I thought it was totally diffrent like debian's iceweasel, the name is changed but the guts are the same. That doesnt make any sense why someone would do that. that makes me want to use a diffrent browser.

I think the various WebKit based browsers look promising. Does anyone know about plugin support for them? I'm curious if switching to WebKit might render all plugins (Flash) non-functional. I figure it probably will.

Re: How to replace Gran Paradiso Alpha with the real Mozilla-Firefox

If it is only for passing browser checks there are various ways to change the agent string.

If it is based from firefox and patched , it should have been faster and more snappy coz it's slow IMO...

You're not quite understanding. Grand Paradiso is Firefox. It's not a separate branch. Mozilla does not allow the use of the word Firefox if you're not distributing their compiled binary. It's the same, exact source code.

I know it is based, but it should be faster and responsive...It is my opinion that is slow...If Konqueror only works it is much faster IMO.

So far this thread has gone "Gran Paridiso is Firefox" -> "It is too slow" -> "Gran Paridiso is Firefox" -> "It is too slow" -> ...

Going nowhere - closing.

So use Konqueror.
