Arch Linux USB Keys

Hey guys, here's a mockup of how an Arch USB Key might look:

I'm able to order them in sizes 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB. I can't get less than 50, and I really can't get more than that either, as its going to cost me more money than I have available to invest as it is. I think they'll be selling for about: 2GB: $20, 4GB: $30, 8GB: $45. I may end up with slightly lower prices than this (I hope so), but I haven't solidified the details and cost of printing yet.

So having said that,

1) Who would buy an Arch USB key at around these prices?
2) What size(s) would you buy?

I'm also going to throw in:
3) Who would buy one with Arch Linux preloaded on it and how much more would you be willing to pay for this service?
-> I have no interest in preloading Arch, but miggols99 of http://shop.archux.com/ may be selling some if it looks like people are interested.

If anyone wants to "preorder", please contact me privately and I'll a) let you know what the final price is when I figure it out, and b) give you a modest (5%) discount. I'd appreciate having a few such preorders made so I can afford to make the initial investment more easily.

Would love one, but funds are tight, so I think I'd have to pass.

However it is a great idea, how much is the profit margin (as the prices seem very reasonable)?

I don't know yet what shipping to Europe will be, but I expect it to be around $5.

Also, if Miggols99 does put arch loaded keys on archux, he's located in UK, he may be better positioned to ship to Europe

I'm willing to buy a 4 GB or 8 GB one if the prices won't go too high.. (also trying to convince Arch Linux Turkish Community to buy more..) I live in Turkey btw.. Hope it doesn't go too high

I chose white to match with the Arch Linux website background.

Hey guys,

Daenyth: sorry I forgot to answer your question; right now, there's only the one model I'll be ordering; I have to order in bulk to get the discounts.

Everyone: I intended to set up a satchmo cart for preorders but have been run off my feet with client requests and job offers this week. Instead, I've started sending out preorder confirmation messages today and will send paypal to requests to people who confirm they are still interested.

In addition, I've bumped the preorder discount to 10%. The deadline to preorder will be Friday October 24, after that they'll be full price. I'm still not sure when they'll be printed and shipped, but my current guess is for early November.

Finally, the bad news is that I will be ordering and selling only 8GB keys; I have been crunching numbers and between the overwhelming demand for 8GB keys and the discounts I get for ordering one size in bulk, I decided to drop support for the 2 and 4 GB varieties at this time. I apologize to those people who were interested in the smaller sizes.

@ phrakture and anyone else located in Champaign-Urbana or Chicago. If you're willing to wait until I'm in town, you can save yourself shipping costs and I'll get it to you by hand, since I'll be acting as the shipping hub for this as well.

My schedule is undefined at the moment, but I can garuntee I'll be in Chicago for the entire week of thanksgiving, and in Champaign-Urbana otherwise.

I don't have the keys printed yet and as stated above, I've decided to go with only 8GB keys. They'll be shipped to Simo in the US, so I won't have them on hand here.

Having said that, if you want an 8GB shipped to you, I'm fine with meeting up here to accept the cash.

Hey, just noticed this thread I thought that I would save people downloading loads of packages for the basics (e.g. Xorg, drivers, codecs etc. maybe a desktop enironment? KDE? GNOME? Xfce?) and put these packages in the Pacman cache ready for quick installation. I know people here wouldn't like a presetup Ubuntu-like Arch based install on there...so I thought that might be a good idea... what do you guys think?
