I would like to run JACK in realtime, and after looking around on the internet for a while, it looks like I need to have a PAM-enabled login manager to do this, namely SLiM. Well, I configured inittab to just login as my user and start X on boot. I don't really want to have a login manager. Is there a way I can run the PAM stuff without a manager?

I have my inittab configured like yours, and I'm running awesome.
I can start jack via qjackctl without problems, and I didn't change anything

Add
session required pam_limits.so
to /etc/pam.d/su.
I'd forgotten about this thread, or I'd have posted the link sooner.
This worked!! Thanks!
