I Heart Cups

Alright... I've let this problem go on long enough.  I've tried and tried to find a solution without asking for help, but no dice.  It started out that I couldn't print PDFs.  Now I can't print anything at all.  I don't know what the hell happened, and despite what I've read CUPS remains a mystery to me.  Alright, to the point:

Under the status of my printer it says:  /usr/lib/cups/backend/usb failed

It's not a problem with the printer itself because it's printing fine from windows.  It's an HP Deskjet 5550.  When I installed the printer I followed the instructions on the wiki exactly.  and it all worked fine.  I'm posting my rc.conf, if there's any other info that a solution would require, please let me know.  Thanks in advance for anyone's help on this.

Re: I Heart Cups

Option one: Sometimes CUPS gets weird when stuff like new kernels are installed. Have you simply tried reinstalling CUPS first (pacman -Sf cups)? If so and things aren't right yet, did you try to redo the printer through the CUPS web interface afterwards?

Option two: If you enter http://darkstar:631 in a web browser, does it get you the CUPS interface? How about http://localhost:631? If the first one works and the second one doesn't, that may be your problem. That will show up in /var/log/cups/error_log as a host not found error of some sort.

Re: I Heart Cups

Just a note: since you have "darkstar" as hostname, make sure you have "darkstar" in /etc/hosts too. Some apps rely on /etc/hosts to get the hostname.

And take a look on /var/log/cups/error_log.
