Hello and sorry if this isn't the most correct forum for this message.
I installed Google Earth from AUR, but unfortunately it takes ages (2+ minutes) to start. On running it with strace, I get stuff like this:
...
writev(9, [{"1\4\16\0\377\377-\0-*-Bitstream Cyberbit-*-*"..., 56}], 1) = 56
writev(9, [{"1\4\16\0\377\377.\0-*-Bitstream Vera Sans-*-"..., 56}], 1) = 56
writev(9, [{"1\4\17\0\377\3773\0-*-Bitstream Vera Sans Mo"..., 60}], 1) = 60
writev(9, [{"1\4\16\0\377\377/\0-*-Bitstream Vera Serif-*"..., 56}], 1) = 56
...
Which I recognize as being font names. Seems that, for some reason, it is trying to read a list of ALL fonts installed on the system, considering I have a lot this takes ages.
Any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks.

couple of possible fixes:
- disable the sky view in GE (I think that is what it is called)
- change the acceleration method from EXA to XAA in xorg.conf
Isn't there any more output when you start in a console?

It's a longshot but if you re using the open source ATI driver look here:
