VLC metronomously increasing pitch

So I got the new VLC ... pretty awesome interface, I really like it.  The problem is that after a little while, maybe 30 seconds or so into whatever I'm playing, it'll slowly pitch bend sharp just veeeeery little for a second, then back to normal pitch ever so gradually.  It's extremely subtle, but I work in an electronic audio production studio where I've been listening to perfectly tuned synths for seven years.  Whenever I hear it, I get all queasy cause I think it's waaaaay off for those couple seconds.  This happens about every 30-60 seconds, but I haven't timed it.

Anybody notice this?  Anything I can try?

I Googled and found this near the bottom of that thread:

Woot, vlc no longer pitch shifts.

Just had to install the cpu_fix driver!

Cheers to mmlr for writing the driver.

I haven't experienced this in VLC, but then again I'm not a sound production pro like you are.
