xdg-open assosiates html files with pidgin...

Well the problem is clear... Don't know what caused it though... How to setup xdg-open to open each application with the desired program?

Depends on your desktop environment. Somehow your desktop environment is configured to open HTML files with pidgin.

I use kde but in kontrol center for html files the assosiation is opera...
Is there any way to configure separately xdg-open?

I believe that xdg gets its information from desktop files. On my system the file ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list has the default app list. I think that /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache is the primary source. I guess order is important there?

Well the first place doesn't exist on my system and the second place doesn't contain the word "pidgin" in it, so it's got to be somewhere else..

I find this weird, as DE-transparancy and interoptibility is what freedesktop & XDG are all about.
But indeed, this seems to be the case.  If you use gnome, check this http://linuxowns.wordpress.com/2008/05/ … lications/
A quick google for '<DE name> default application' will probably give you what you want.

Re: xdg-open assosiates html files with pidgin...

OK.. that's weird... (I use kde, BTW). kfmclient exec also launches pidgin for html files. When I uninstall pidgin bot xdg-open and kfmclient exec launch opera for html file. As soon as I install pidgin again, again html files are assosiated with it... WTF?!?!?

I installed pidgin just to see if I could help you with this and it has no default association with any file type let alone html. So, when you go to the file associations dialog in KDE and type html, is it showing pidgin there at all?

Already checked, checked again now, and there is no pidgin in there...
