/etc/arch-release

As I upgraded initscripts up to 0.7 this evening, I noticed that it changed the arch version on bootup,
but not on my login screen. Hmmm. So after some quick research, I figured out that it's /etc/arch-release
that controls the arch-release version for that logon screen, while the version is hardcoded into
the initscripts. Isn't this a little inconvenient, and possibly confusing? Why not have initscripts read the version in from /etc/arch-release,
thus centralizing where the version info is stored?

Re: /etc/arch-release

Hmmmm, good question.

Please file a bug-report since Judd and the dev's may see it there first.

Re: /etc/arch-release

:?  Judd closed it within 20 minutes saying only this:

Closed by Judd Vinet (judd) on 15 Jul 2004.
Reason for closing:   Not a bug

This is normal for this part of our release cycle. Be patient and the version numbers will sync up soon.

I don't think he realizes what my point was... Changing it so that it's in one place will potentially avoid stupid, needless, bug reports in the future, and would take all of 2 minutes to do...

I think he's smart enough to see that point. If he wants it otherwise, I'm sure he has a well thought-out reason smile
