[SOLVED] Upgrade problem

I just ran pacman -Syu as I usually do on a daily basis, and I got this:

:: Replace gspcav1 with core/kernel26? [Y/n] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
Checking for package upgrades...

Remove (1): gspcav1-1.00.20-7

Total Removed Size: 0,40 MB

Targets (7): kernel26-2.6.27-2 catalyst-8.8-2 dhcpcd-4.0.2-1 gimp-2.6.1-1
             libgdiplus-2.0-1 mono-2.0-1 wine-1.1.6-1

Total Download Size: 0,00 MB
Total Installed Size: 292,80 MB

Then I removed the gspcav1 package manually with -Rncs, and tried again:

error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
Checking for package upgrades...

Targets (7): catalyst-8.8-2 dhcpcd-4.0.2-1 gimp-2.6.1-1 kernel26-2.6.27-2
             libgdiplus-2.0-1 mono-2.0-1 wine-1.1.6-1

Total Download Size: 0,00 MB
Total Installed Size: 292,80 MB

I'm quite puzzled. And the fact that the total displayed download size is 0 MB (and I haven't downloaded any of the target packages previously), besides the error message being displayed before the list of targets, is a serious indication that something's not right. Any ideas?

Re: [SOLVED] Upgrade problem

I guess it resolved itself smile. Everything's fine now. Guess it was just a minor glitch with one of the packages which was fixed during the night...

Re: [SOLVED] Upgrade problem

This issue is not resolved itself on my install yet. Anyone have a manual fix?

Re: [SOLVED] Upgrade problem

There is a kernel bug; downgrading the kernel & any dependencies (not many of them) seems to fix this problem.

In case you don't know, check your /var/log/pacman.log if you need to see what got upgraded, & /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ should have your older packages, unless you have cleaned them out. smile

Install from the cache as below:

sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/desired_package

It worked for me on two machines. smile

I used to be surprised that I was still surprised by my own stupidity, finding it strangely refreshing.
Well, now I don't find it refreshing.
I'm over it!
