VSync

Hey all, I have an nVidia 8800GT using the latest 177.80 drivers. How do I enable sync to vblank so tearing doesn't occur when I move windows around? I don't really have an intention to use Compiz Fusion but from experience I know it works the way I want if I do use Compiz Fusion. So how do I do it without using Compiz Fusion?

Re: VSync

same problem here. vsync seems not to be activated in composite mode. problem occurs in mplayer and xine. disabling composition effects helps.

Re: VSync

Do you have nvidia-settings(I think its in the nvidia-utils package) ?

I dont use compiz, but I set "sync to vblank"  using nvidia-settings/XScreen 0/XServer XVideo Settings - tick "sync to vblank"
and also setting it in nvidia-settings/XScreen 0/Opengl Settings - tick "sync to vblank"

hope that helps hmm

edit: try typing nvidia-settings in a terminal to see if you have it installed, it opens up in an easy to use gui, in fluxbox I just added it to my menu file, kde used to be easy to add it to the menu too, no idea what DE or WM your using

Re: VSync

activating unredirect fullscreen windows in ccsm might help, but it will not work für xfce's composite manager, metacities comp. manager and xcompmgr.

any ideas??

Re: VSync

in your /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Option  "SyncToVBlank" "True" in your Section "Device"

Edit: Actually the option is "OnDemandVBlankInterrupts"
Sync to Vblank is enabled with the nvidia-settings tool under Xv  and OpenGL like RabidWolf says

Edit2: OnDemandVBlankInterrupts is actually a power saving feature
mmmmh such useless post of mine
