So, I recently got an update to emacs, I believe, which, for some reason, uninstalled emacs-color-theme. Upon reinstalling it, I can't seem to set my color theme using my .emacs file anymore. Here's my .emacs:
File Edit Options Buffers Tools Emacs-Lisp Help
(custom-set-variables
;; custom-set-variables was added by Custom.
;; If you edit it by hand, you could mess it up, so be careful.
;; Your init file should contain only one such instance.
;; If there is more than one, they won't work right.
'(inhibit-startup-screen t))
(custom-set-faces
;; custom-set-faces was added by Custom.
;; If you edit it by hand, you could mess it up, so be careful.
;; Your init file should contain only one such instance.
;; If there is more than one, they won't work right.
)
(require 'color-theme)
(color-theme-classic)And here is the error I get when starting emacs:
An error has occurred while loading `/home/peter/.emacs':
Symbol's function definition is void: color-theme-classic
To ensure normal operation, you should investigate and remove the
cause of the error in your initialization file. Start Emacs with
the `--debug-init' option to view a complete error backtrace.
Loading cl-macs...done

After
(require 'color-theme)add the line
(color-theme-initialize)I'm not sure what caused the change, but for whatever reason the color themes aren't automatically loaded with the require line anymore.

Not that I know of. I found it by experimentation.

Sure it is; http://emacswiki.org/cgi-bin/wiki/ColorTheme#toc1
You need to install an RTFM interface.

Thanks saved my bacon also ... 1st time it hit was installing Ubuntu 10.10
As coloUr management in Emacs get more complex I get less an less interested ... all I look for now
is how to re-enable the 'classics colours' ... though I'd settle for just being able to start emacs without colours blowing up once again.
