Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I encounter some big problems with catalyst-total.

the package version is 13.12-1.
CPU Intel Core i7 920 @ 4Ghz (oc)
8GB RAM

Wine Steam Counter strike Global Official has many problems. When I run it, it corrupts the whole screen with many artifacts blinking randomly, the game is extremely slow (5-10 FPS compared to 400FPS of native windows) and it crashes and freezes the whole system/kernel sometimes.

Open source drivers work beautifully and without any problem whatsoever, except that they give very poor 3D performance.

I gave up on catalyst and tried to uninstall it but now I get another problem with the dependecies:

sudo pacman -R catalyst-total
[sudo] password for nektarios:
checking dependencies...
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: cairo: requires libgl
:: cgminer-gpu: requires libcl
:: freeglut: requires libgl
:: glu: requires libgl
:: imagemagick: requires libcl
:: lib32-cairo: requires lib32-libgl
:: lib32-glu: requires lib32-libgl
:: lib32-qt4: requires lib32-libgl
:: libva: requires libgl
:: mesa-demos: requires libgl
:: mplayer: requires libgl
:: mysql-workbench: requires libgl
:: qt4: requires libgl
:: qt5-base: requires libgl
:: qtbase-git: requires libgl
:: steam: requires lib32-libgl
:: tigervnc: requires libgl

I then try:

sudo pacman -R libgl
error: target not found: libgl

I used the xorg114 repository to install Xorg 1.4, so I removed the repository from my /etc/pacman.conf and tried to reinstall xorg-server:

sudo pacman -S xorg-server
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: xorg-server and xf86-input-evdev are in conflict (X-ABI-XINPUT_VERSION). Remove xf86-input-evdev? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: xorg-server: requires xf86-input-evdev
:: catalyst-total: requires xorg-server<1.15.0

I am lost, I don't know how I can solve these problems, either fix the wine crashes or uninstall catalyst and get back to open source drivers.

Anyone can help me out?

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Thanks, that worked. I reinstalled xf86-video-ati, reversed system alterations for catalyst and it works (except that now for some reason, I don't have 3d acceleration in steam, native or wine. still investigating).

The reason for that is explained here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI

But until AMD fix their catalyst-drivers again to work with latest Xorg...,
then I'm ok with "xf86-video-ati" for now,
atleast it works with Xorg 1.15 on my system - Asus-Notebook-A10-4600M/HD7670M series APU/GPU.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I'm running [catalyst] with [xorg114] and am experiencing some glitchy rendering with KDE.  It seems to happen when I'm running firefox (but, then again, I'm always running firefox).  Looks like a polygon or other section of the screen that flashes.  The glitch clears up when that section of the screen is redrawn (scrolling or moving the window around).  I haven't noticed any kind of pattern as to when it happens, and my system is up to date.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

I started seeing this very recently as well. I've got three monitors and an older 5870 with the 6x displayport setup. KDE + Chromium seems especially bad with this.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Does anyone have any experience with bumblebee-amd? I followed the instructions on the bumblebee-amd-hacks git page but nothing occurs when I execute the ati start command.  dmesg and Xorg log don't show anything out of the ordinary.  Am I supposed to customize the ati script?

Try turning on Tear Free in the AMDCCCLE settings. It does not eliminate it entirely but its close.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

amdcccle crashes with catalyst-13.111:

(gdb) bt

#4  0x0000000000427526 in CLDC::Initialize() ()

And X-Plane crashes too... can someone help?

What graphics card do you have? I have 5770 and I am experiencing this as well in KDE with chromium, and especially badly with spotify, when it shows HTML content. This occurs only now and then, not always. I also tried an open source drivers and this does not happen with them, but cannot use them as whole X freezes a few times a day.

Spotify is exceptionally bad here as well.   I have a 7770

What version of OpenGL do you have selected in System Settings > Desktop Effects > Advanced?

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Aha. Thanks for your comments. I assume amdcccle works for everybody and you guys don't want to bother with it.
Removing /usr/lib/ati/lib64/libQt*.so.4 and create symlinks to local qt4 installation fixes it but i assume nobody is interessted in this funfact.

@hippieben: OpenGL 3.1/Native. That is the only working setting for effects I use...

Glad you fixed your issue, and thank you for following up with the solution in case someone else runs into that in the future.

Me too, I just dropped it down to v 2.0 native and am going to see if that changes anything.  Spotify still goes crazy, but resizing the window appeases it temporarily (not something new after switching opengl 2)

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Sorry for my newbie question...

Can I install catalyst 12.08 with pacman?
If yes: How?
Thanks

P.S. I've set xorg112 and catalyst-stable.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Catalyst 14.1 was released: http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-article … river.aspx

And it has some pretty juicy updates:

- Xorg 1.15 support
- Linux 3.13 support

And for me, this is especially nice:

[389431] : Screens are distorted when connecting an external monitor on some Haswell platforms

I'm *hoping* this is a reference to the distortions that some PXP laptops get when using an external monitor, though I'll do some tests shortly.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

How do I configure keybinds with aticonfig (terminal)? I don't want to enable multilib, hence amdcccle doesn't apparently work.

I just want ctrl+alt+super+right to change orientation to pivot (1200x1920) and ctrl+alt+super+up to change it back to landscape.

You might be able to do that with your DE/WM. KDE for example has kscreen, which handles it. Don't know about Pivot, because haven't used it (might use it now), I mean, I don't know about hotkeys, but you can use kscreen to change the orientation on-the-fly.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I'm pretty much only using Openbox.

edit: should have done more searching, atleast

xrandr -o left

seems to have worked fine.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

@Vi0L0:

could you please update the "provides" section for catalyst?
It should provide mesa-libgl now, otherwise xorg-server cannot be built since this commit.

@all:

If you want to test 14.1, here's an updated PKGBUILD of catalyst-test.
Works fine with xorg-server 1.15.0. smile

yeah, i've been testing 14.1.
as for the 'mesa-libgl' - could this be a mistake? Is there any logical reson for such a change?
I can see that mesa-libgl provides libgl, same as nvidia-libgl (does not provide mesa-libgl).
I also don't see any logical reason to continue this mistake, saying that catalyst provides mesas libgl library would be a lie.

Odd, i just changed it to libgl because my system depends on THAT. Works fine.
