What's running on your eee? (or other netbook)

The two eee threads in the Kernel subforum are huge. It seems a lot of Arch users have these little netbooks (or sub-notebooks, or ultra-portables, or whatever term you wish to use).

I thought it'd be interesting to see what other users are running on theirs. I don't know if this thread belongs in Laptop Issues since the point of it is not to discuss issues, so much. If there is a better forum, I am sure a moderator can move it.

Here is what I am running and using most:

Netbook type: Asus eee 901
OS: Arch, of course
Kernel: zen-eee-901
Window Manager: Fluxbox
Network Manager: wicd
File Manager: pcmanfm
Terminal: Gnome-terminal
Browser: Firefox
Editor: Geany
Irc: xchat
Presentations: Impress
Music: mpd + sonata
Videos: mplayer
Photos: Risretto
Battery monitor: Gnome-power-manager
Miscellaneous: Gnomesword, Pysol

Those are what I am using most of the time. I have not chosen a pdf reader yet. I'm thinking evince, but maybe someone else is already using one on their and I'll grab that instead.

So, what netbook do you have and what are you running on it?

Re: What's running on your eee? (or other netbook)

My Eee 900 runs arch with xfce4 as the de. It runs great but I just don't use it enough.  I'm thinking about restoring the xnadros that came with it and letting my wife use it for school. Shes a Bio/chem major and used the hell out of the periodic table app that it had.

KJoN's netbook (E^3 900) is powered by a vanilla archlinux installation. 2.6.27 kernel.
DE: Xfce,
FS: Reiser 3.6 and a lot of tmpfs mounts big_smile, plus a squashedfs directory.
NM: wicd
FM: thunar
TE: Terminal
WB: FFox
ER: TBird
IC: xchat
and openoffice, mplayer... lyx, vmware workstation, skype and so on smile

everything fits nicely on 1.2 gb packed on a sqfs. That's cool

They say that if you play a Win cd backward you hear satanic messages. That's nothing! 'cause if you play it forwards, it installs windows.

I have not used midori in a while. Does it remember settings now? I recall it would not remember my startpage or passwords, but it was really fast.

It seems to be working. Only problem I got, is the still not working bookmark-management. But I don't mind. don't use my eee for browsing the net so often.

Re: What's running on your eee? (or other netbook)

I have just found out, that LXDE seems to be a good choice for a netbook. It have that fancy launcher (lxlauncher) like Xandros or Eeebuntu has.

Arch - It's something refreshing

I have an Eee 901 with Ubuntu Hardy, kernel from array.org and some acpi scripts. Why not Arch? Because it's too much work.

Nice thread. Interesting to see some with similar setups. I'm a desktop KDE user but Gnome is the the DE of choice on the lil' cutie for me. In between KDE's functionality and XFCE's resource friendliness. I had tried the other two before (including both KDE and KDEmod) and am now totally happy with Gnome. big_smile

Model: HP Mininote 2133
OS: Arch
Kernel: stock 2.6.28
WM: Awesome3
System monitor: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 48#p466748
Music: mocp
Terminal: roxterm
Editor: vim, geany
Documents: epdfview, antiword, catdoc
Media player: smplayer
Browser: Opera
Editing: mhwaveedit, gimp, inkscape
Games:  Noiz2sa, Stone Soup, fceu

Lots of random programming languages and math tools.

If you use XCFE terminal, roxterm is the same thing with same features but smaller/faster.

If you use mplayer, smplayer is the same thing but with a good UI.  (The way it smoothly handles mplayer crashes alone is worthwhile.)
