I use XFCE and when I upgraded using pacman -Syu yesterday, this seems to have brought in a regression in Firestarter 1.0.3-7. When I click on System>"Firestarter gksu" and enter the root password, an error message is displayed as follows:
"A proper configuration for Firestarter was not found. If you are running Firestarter from the directory you built it in, run 'make install-data-local' to install a configuration, or simply 'make install' to install the whole program.
Firestarter will now close."I tried purging Firestarter and re-installing to no effect. Also I tried an old possible solution to this problem from http://www.archlinux.org/pipermail/arch … 03053.html which is to do as root
gconftool-2 --set --type string /apps/firestarter/client/system_log /var/log/kernelI get the same error dialog when running 'sudo firestarter' or 'gksu firestarter' from CLI. Further, the 'gksu firestarter' command from CLI outputs the following message in the terminal
(firestarter:13317): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.Firestarter only seems to work without the error when switching to root as 'su -' and then issuing either 'firestarter' or 'gksu firestarter' OR as normal user 'gksudo firestarter'.
I tried installing from ABS, but it's no use either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Could this be related to libgnomeui?

I had the same problem. When I had gconf for Gnome 2.22 installed everything worked. Then for some reason someone put gconf for Gnome 2.24 into the repo and when I updated, I got that new version. But it broke Firestarter. Now after that I updated the whole of Gnome to 2.24 including gconf, Firestarter works. If you don't have Gnome installed and updated, maybe it would be a good idea to downgrade gconf to 2.22.
Offline
Well, I also updated GNOME 2.24 but still firestarter won't run.

Hm, my bad. I didn't test after I installed Gnome. Firestarter graphical interface is broken!

Firestarter works fine here (using sudo).
I've read somewhere that starting with Gnome 2.24, apps should be launched with dbus-launch. Try:
# gksu dbus-launch firestarterLast edited by biloky (2008-10-28 02:12:31)

file a bug report.

Ok. Found the source:
http://www.mail-archive.com/frugalware- … 21999.html
It is a patched gksu package.
Never filed a bug report before.... uh... should this be filed under 'firestarter' or 'gksu'? ![]()

I'd say that is a gksu bug. Mention that firestarter does not launch in the description and you will cover all bases.

Try launching it with "gksu dbus-launch firestarter"
Hopefully that should do the trick.
Good luck

But not for me.
Yeah, a fresh install of Arch, firestarter won't run unless I am root, gksu will not start.

I can run it using sudo only, but get that similar error through system menu.
Im using a patched firestarter I got from someone on these forums a while back (http://www.mediafire.com/file/jtkuoxzuz … 7.5.tar.gz) patches include: 12_firestarter_transparent_icon.patch, 18_fix_memleak.patch, events-log-fix.patch, menu-toolbar-icons-fix.patch

For me both
gksu dbus-launch firestarter
and
sudo firestarter
work.
